Tiempo fuera de todo lugar — Photobook

Tiempo fuera de todo lugar
Xavi Carrión

“La imagen es paciente. Cuando la encuentras, te ofrece
un espejo, un mapa o un laberinto”. (The image is patient. When you find it,
it offers you a mirror, a map, or a labyrinth).

This photobook is a visual and poetic interpretation of the photographer’s
core concept shared above.

I was drawn to this beautiful idea, and so I led the team to use it to shaped both the message and the creative direction.

Passion Project: Completed for Photobook Workshop led by Jon Uriarte de Luxan, as part of the Master's in Editorial Design at ELISAVA Barcelona.
Team: Lillian Ingabire, Clarisa Chervin, Francisca Amador, and Ainhoa Campoy.
Services: Photo selection, sequencing, and book prototype design.
Deliverables: Completed prototype/dummy with print suggestions.
Special thanks to photographer Xavi Carrión for trusting us with his precious photographs and his special message for the world.

“La imagen es paciente. Cuando la encuentras, te ofrece un espejo, un mapa o un laberinto”.

The image is patient. When you find it, it offers you a mirror, a map, or a labyrinth.

Photo Selection

From the photographer’s provided photo collection, we curated 30 ambiguous yet intriguing photographs to create a contemplative and mysterious atmosphere. The limited number of images invites a focused and reflective viewing.

The sequence begins with a reflective image and continues by connecting subtle elements from one image to the next. Most appear on the right-hand page to guide the reader’s natural gaze and deepen engagement. Occasional shifts to the left page introduce surprise and pause.

Photo Sequencing

We made multiple dummies/prototypes simply with paper and glue. This helped us to determine the sequence of photos and the rhythm of the book.

Creative Concept

The image is patient. When you find it, it offers you a mirror, a map, or a labyrinth.

From image selection, to sequencing, to photo book design.

End of Sequence

The sequence ends with a hidden folding page that reveals a poem.
Concealed until the final moment, it invites the reader to engage actively with the object, reinforcing the theme of discovery.

A poem hidden behind a folding page closes the photo story.

The Cover

The cover maintains the theme of mystery, withholding images and playing with space between title and author. A photograph on the back continues this ambiguity. A serif typeface enhances the poetic tone, while foil-stamped typography reflects the light and shadow central to the photographs.
